My Las Vegas Hotel Reviews

Mirage Hotel Review

Mirage, Las Vegas, owned by MGM Mirage, one of the first mega-resorts in Las Vegas, opened its doors in 1989. According to a recent press release dated May 13, 2009, “The Mirage introduced the concept of destination resort to the Las Vegas Strip”. The idea of a gaming and hotel establishment offering much else was not the norm at the time. But, at a cost of over six hundred and thirty million dollars, this theme resort was built. To fully appreciate the “mega” in mega-resort, you only need to hear or see the displays and entertainment that this fine resort offers:

• The Volcano which erupts every hour in the evening and culminates in a sixty foot fire eruption has been a signature asset of the property since 1989. To upgrade the attraction to current standards, it recently underwent a major renovation in 2008.

• The Tropical Atrium is a peaceful, natural sanctuary with palm trees, waterfalls, pools, banana trees, tropical orchids, and other tropical flowers.

• The Aquarium is said to be “the most technically advanced in the world” with its artificial corals, sea creatures, close to one thousand marine life forms, twenty thousand gallons of water, and an intricate filtration system.

• For those interested in wildlife and animals, The Mirage will not disappoint. The property is home to The Secret Garden, housing five rare animal breeds including the famous Siegfried & Roy’s Royal White Tigers of Nevada and a new baby Jaguar. The Dolphin Habitat serves as an educational arena for area school children to learn about the plight of the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins.

• Dining establishments are plentiful at the Mirage and range from fine dining in “kokomo's”, The Mirage's flagship restaurant, to café style food at Caribe Café, or even dessert at Coconuts Ice Cream Shop, and heavenly pastries at The Roasted Bean.

• The Mirage is one big party if you like the nightlife. JET Nightclub, created by celebrated designer Jeffrey Beers, is fifteen thousand square feet of fun. “A one-of-a-kind light and laser grid, state-of-the-art cryogenic effects systems and the best sound design technology available places JET on the leading edge and in a class of its own.” A much smaller venue but equally as exciting is the RHUMBAR, a Caribbean style nightclub that holds only one hundred persons, it is known for the specialty cocktails and on-site humidor filled with a large selection of cigars. Lastly, if you prefer the psychedelic parties of The Beatles' era, then The Beatles REVOLUTION Lounge is the perfect place to visit with its ever changing music and interior.

Whatever the interest in Las Vegas, The Mirage is sure to offer something for anyone.
